Innovative Practices in Developing an Online Learning Framework

We kicked off our 12th national benchmarking study, Innovative Practices in Developing an Online Learning Framework” on September 21, 2010. Best practice partners include Broward County Public Schools; Ft. Lauderdale Florida, Halifax County Schools, Halifax North Carolina, Henrico County Public Schools; Henrico Virginia, Irving ISD; Irving Texas, Poudre School Districts; Ft. Collins, Colorado and Watchung Hills Regional High School District; Warren New Jersey.  Sponsoring Organizations include Florida Virtual School, Connections Academy, Learning.com and Blackboard Inc.

The end product of the benchmarking study will be an “ideal state process model” of the processes, sub processes and associated best practices with developing an online learning framework. Examples of best practices identified during the virtual working sessions include 1)establishing a separate, central administration for the online learning program is ideal vs. a “fragmented” administration or running the program through the technology department 2) conduct first round of teacher interviewing online to assess level of skill and comfort level with technology 3) invite  full time online students to a campus once a month for socialization and teacher contact and  4) Florida Virtual Schools offers 13 approved AP courses.
